It has been close to 2 weeks since starting as a System Administrator with Blue Ridge Mountain Electric Membership Corporation. Trying saying it 5 times real fast.
I’m just starting to get my hands on the systems and getting familiar with the ‘whos its’ and ‘whats its.’ There is a lot of information and systems to wrap one’s head round. Navigating some of these systems will be a bit tricky. I’m also not sure how much I will need to know about the applications themselves or if I am going to reach out to vendors the majority of the time.
I’m not going to get into the weeds about the systems at this time; I don’t think it would be polite. As I’ve already started putting together plans to make systems more reliable and I have even taken steps in some instances.
Microsoft Hyper-V and MSSQL are two products that I have not managed extensively in my career. I will spend a good bit of my first months going over documentation for these products. I have written a Powershell script to retrieve infomation about MSSQL instances and SSIS jobs and stood up a Greylog server.
I’m looking forward to my work at BRMEMC. It will be a rewarding experience.
